New Activities for 2011/12

posted 15 Aug 2011 07:59 by Tim Neumann   [ updated 15 Aug 2011 08:02 ]

The Academic Writing Centre will start three new activities in the coming academic year:

  1. We will be introducing phone and Skype one-to-one tutorials next academic year,
  2. we hope to run the presessional programme throughout the academic year for all three entry points, and
  3. we are developing our online provision to strengthen our offer for distance students.
Please consult the website or get in touch with me if you need any further information about the Centre’s activities and how we can support your students or programme.

From CAPLITS to the Academic Writing Centre

posted 15 Aug 2011 07:52 by Tim Neumann

Senior Leadership Team has recently approved a change of name for CAPLITS, which will be known as the ‘Academic Writing Centre’ from September 1st.

The new name was proposed by the CAPLITS team in response to feedback that the name Centre for Academic and Professional Literacies generated some confusion at times about the nature of our activities. The new name is intended to provide a simple description of the core activity of the Centre. It is hoped that the this – alongside other developments – will make it easier for a wider range of IOE students to access our resources, classes and tutorials in order to develop their writing and academic communication, and will also support our activities around income-generating short courses.

The new URL is www.ioe.ac.uk/writingcentre, and the website will move over to the new name at the end of this month. In the meantime, please update any references you have to CAPLITS in programme handbooks. We will form part of the Department of Culture, Communication and Media in the restructure.
